Clarity & Dehaze in Lightroom

Licence this image at Adobe Stock File # 150890101

Learn to use the Clarity & Dehaze Sliders in Lightroom CC & Lightroom Classic to enhance sharpness, detail, and textures.

The clarity Slider is used to adjust mid tone contrast. But use it with care unless you intend to create a grungy HDR look. Negative clarity can be used to soften a scene or portrait.

The Dehaze technology is based on a physical model of how light is transmitted, and it tries to estimate light that is lost due to absorption and scattering through the atmosphere and with a single click you can easily remove fog or haze from a photograph, dramatically improving image details and color saturation without using or needing any masking – it’s automatic. For the best results, you’ll want to set the white balance for the image before using Dehaze. Move the slider to the right – to easily remove the haze from the original scene. Or drag to the left to add fog for artistic effect.

These tools are not only for landscapes and sunsets. Have you ever thought of using them to enhance texture in a fabric?

Nikon Ventures into Mirrorless Cameras to be used in Live View

Nikon has announce the release of the full-frame, mirrorless cameras Nikon Z 7 and Nikon Z 6, as well as NIKKOR Z lenses, featuring a new, larger-diameter mount. This will obviously mean competition for Sony and other manufacturers which should be good for consumers. Only three new lenses are available to begin with, but F mount lenses can be used with an adaptor.

3 new Z mount lenses
24-70mm f4 (Kit Lens when purchased with body)
35mm f 1.8
50mm f1.8

Updates to the Book Module – Lightroom Classic CC v7.5

Adobe has not made many changes recently to the book module so it is good to see it getting some more love. The new features include:

New Book types – Blurb Magazine & Blurb Trade Book. These are additional to the standard Photo books, providing less expensive options.

New Paper type – Lay Flat Spreads will enable a single image to be spread across both left and right pages. Ideal for panoramas or for combining with text.

Customized Pages & Photo/Text cells - this is a much requested feature and I’m pleased that we can now make our own custom page layouts and save them as favorites.

I have made a short video demo at YouTube:

Border Slider – this has been added to the cell panel. It enables a solid border to be added to photo cells and for the color to be changed using the color picker after clicking on the color chip to the right of the slider, in the cells panel.

Pause & Resume upload to Blurb server – this enables more control when uploading a completed book order.

This option is available through expanded Progress Bar.
