Adobe has announced today the release of
updates for all of the Lightroom products with several new features and support
for new camera models.
One of my favourite new features is the
Texture slider.
I’ve been using this new slider a lot,
especially as a local selective adjustment and I find the results very
pleasing. I would say it sits between clarity and sharpening so it’s always
best to apply adjustments when viewing images 1:1
I’m finding I get much better results with
Texture, even with high positive or negative settings compared with clarity
which often adds mid-tone contrast and some sharpening to give an artificial
grungy look or hazy softening.
I’ve created a user preset using an off-image
graduated filter to apply a combination of Texture with a little Dehaze and
this is proving useful on many of my landscape photos with the ability to apply
the effect with a single click,
The Texture global adjustment slider is in
the Basic tab, under Presence and just above the Clarity slider in Classic or in the Effects tab in Lightroom.
The Texture local adjustment slider is in the
local adjustment controls, above Clarity after selecting brush, radial or
graduated (linear) filters.
The
algorithm uses process version 5. images using PV3 or PV4 will get updated to
PV5. Texture works by isolating only medium-sized details without increasing
noise.
-Positive values enhance image texture - good
for landscapes, and foreground features etc.
-Negative values decrease image texture -
good for skin smoothing. A new preset called Soften Skin Lite has been
introduced which uses a combination of negative clarity and texture when using
the brush.
The new Texture tool is available in all versions of
Lightroom, on mobile and in Adobe Camera Raw.
Update
From the Creative Cloud desktop installer, go to the apps
tab and click update next to the app you wish to install. iOS updates can be
downloaded from the App Store and Android updates from Google Play. The letters
CC have been dropped from product titles; so we now see Lightroom Classic. The
cloud eco system is now simply known as Lightroom, including Lightroom Mobile
and Lightroom Web. Apple iPad users should download Adobe Lightroom for iPad.
